Energy Auctions Benefit State — “Connecticut state government has been auctioning its energy needs on an upside-down eBay of sorts, letting power suppliers fight for its business online and locking in the lowest bids. In operation for about a year, the so-called ‘online reverse auctions’ have saved state taxpayers nearly $20 million so far and insulated the state somewhat from rapidly changing energy prices, according to estimates to be released today by the state and World Energy Solutions Inc., a Worcester-based energy broker that runs the auctions.”
