Darien Land Trust lands a fish | Darien Times: “Darien Land Trust has joined Connecticut’s efforts to help build the populations of alewives, a type of river herring on which the osprey, some shore birds and many large fish depend on for sustenance. Once they’ve spawned in a freshwater pond or lake, alewives head downstream and out to the Atlantic Ocean where they swim with deep-water Atlantic herring that are important to the survival of puffins and terns.”
