A reader alerted me to this stor. It’s not a Connecticut story but it does show what can be done with a little innovation, and money.

FORT MYERS — Florida Gulf Coast University’s desire to be one of the premiere universities for renewable energy research and education got supercharged on Tuesday.

University President Wilson Bradshaw announced a $1 million gift from John Backe Sr., president of the Backe Foundation Inc., to establish the Backe Chair in Renewable Energy Endowed Fund. The fund’s purpose is to attract a nationally-renowned scholar dedicated to the study of renewable energy.

FGCU proposes to build a facility at the Innovation Hub to study renewable energy, solar energy, alternative energy sources, biotechnology, green technology and other programs.
