As of Aug. 31, nearly half of the state’s electric load (the amount of energy used) was purchased from competitive electric suppliers, according to statistics recently published by the state Department of Public Utility Control. This milestone marks the first time since the restructuring of Connecticut’s electric industry, a restructuring that took off in earnest on Jan. 1, 2007, that close to 50 percent of the state’s electric load was purchased from a competitive supplier rather than a regulated utility.
