Nov. 21 Clean Energy Exposition, “Meltdown” Film, Panel Discussion. Nov. 21, 2009, 4 – 10 p.m. at the Unitarian Society of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Ave., Hartford, CT. PACE (People’s Action for Clean Energy) is sponsoring the event which will include Exhibits: environmental organizations and green companies; clean energy installers; “Meltdown” film; food; awards; panel discussion with experts.
This free event will expose one of the most taboo subjects of our time – nuclear energy. It is a rare opportunity to learn the truth about the dangers of nuclear power; discuss this taboo subject with experts; learn the facts, the cost and the issues; and help make Connecticut safer and healthier.
The realistic and riveting FX Channel film “Meltdown,” depicting nuclear power, nuclear weapons and depleted uranium, will be shown beginning at 4:00 pm,
From 5:00 to 7:00 pm, environmental organizations and companies will exhibit benign solutions to climate change such as solar, geothermal and wind technologies. Clean energy installers will also be on hand. Vegetarian pizza, non-alcoholic beverages and desserts will be available for a small charge.
The 7:00 program will begin with a brief PACE annual meeting, followed by awards to outstanding environmental and legislative leaders. A panel of experts will then present facts about the ramifications of the nuclear power industry, including the inextricable link between domestic power and military weapons. The distinguished panelists are the director of Three Mile Island Alert, (www.tmia.com) and the staff of Beyond Nuclear, (www.beyondnuclear.org). Questions from the audience will be encouraged.
The presentation will include little-known facts such as routine emissions of cancer-causing isotopes into the air, land and water; unworkable evacuation plans; reactor leaks; personal protection items; impact on DNA; unprotected fuel rod storage; insufficient protection against terrorism; inability to help climate change; unsolved waste problems; prohibitive taxpayer costs; extension of plants’ licenses; and uranium mining dangers.

ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS TO BE HONORED AT NOV. 21 PACE EVENT
Environmental and legislative leaders will be honored on November 21 at a PACE event (Nuclear Power: The Truth) following a Clean Energy Expo. Starting at 7:15 p.m., Lifetime Achievement awards will be presented to Eric Epstein, of Three Mile Island Alert, and to the staff of Beyond Nuclear. Their brave and long-standing efforts are critical to the health and safety of U.S. citizens.
Legislative awards will be presented to Rep. Sean Williams (R), Watertown, and Rep. Vickie Nardello (D), Prospect, for their outstanding leadership during the last legislative session on clean energy legislation. As committed, dedicated and tireless advocates of safe energy, their hard work helped the State House of Representatives to unanimously support safe energy. In addition, “Rising Sun” awards will be presented to new legislators Rep. Lonnie Reed (D), Branford, Rep. Matthew Lesser(D), Middletown, and Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D),Cheshire, for their critical and effective support of this issue.
Christopher Phelps, of Environment Connecticut, will receive an organization award and Adam Ney, of Buildingctgreen.com, will receive a business/media award. A special award will be presented to Avon Old Farms School in memory of Michael Stradley for the installation of solar panels on its ice rink, the largest operating solar array of any private school in New England.
