BRISTOL — With people living, working and playing there, Bristol’s downtown was once the heart and soul of the community, said Michael Nicastro, president of the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce.

The place called Depot Square was at the center of a “vibrant, integrated downtown,” with passenger and freight trains, trolley cars and people. “It was the pulse of the city of Bristol,” he said, making a pitch for restoring passenger rail service to U.S.Rep. John Larson and area business leaders attending a chamber breakfast Monday.
