Yale Professor Scott Strobel went hunting for a specific type of fungus in the West Rock Ridge Forest, located within a mile of his Hamden home. Strobel was in search of ascocoryne, otherwise known as a Jellydrop fungus which has been shown to be a producer of hydrocarbons. This specific fungus was found by Strobel in Patagonia, Chile and the Berkshires in New York. On Tuesday, he was determined to find it in his own backyard and, along with a graduate student, he did.
