Single-stream lifts recycling 39 percent

STAMFORD — Municipal recycling has increased by 39 percent since Stamford adopted a single-stream system one year ago, according to city officials.

City-collected recycling increased to 8,170 tons in the year ended June 30 from 5,870 tons the prior year, according to Dan Colleluori, Stamford's solid waste supervisor. Meanwhile, the amount of nonrecycled garbage collected by the city decreased to 33,591 tons from 34,697 tons the prior year.
