The Tri-State Transportation Campaign applauds Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell for her strong support of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Line, as shown by the State Bond Commission’s decision to release $260 million for the project today.
Her support of this project puts Connecticut in the best possible position to receive funding from the second round of grants from the federal high-speed rail program.
Transit projects like this one mean jobs today and continued economic development in the future. Locally, this line will become an important transportation option in the I-91 corridor. Regionally, it will strengthen the state’s connections to New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. State leaders recognized many years ago that the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Line was a critical investment in Connecticut’s economic well-being, environmental sustainability, and quality of life. The funds released today will bring it closer than ever to fruition.
