LETTER: Planners forgot that airport is open space

I’m not sure how accurate this letter is, but someone writes to The New Haven Register that during an ad hoc Park Development Committee meeting in Madison, the committee voted not to consider reopening the airport.

“It incorrectly concluded,” they write, “it would take up too much of the space required to be set aside as open space. Except for the hangars, an airport is open space. Also, a significant part of the runway safety zone is on wetlands that cannot be used for anything else.”
