Newhall, Hamden (newhallinfo.org)

The excavation of contaminated soil at Charles Patterson’s home in the Newhall section of Hamden occurred at lightning speed in comparison to the 10 years it has taken to put the first shovel in the ground since the discovery that much of the neighborhood was built on an industrial dump. In less than three days, the soil in his Morse Street yard was removed to a depth of 4 feet, a barrier installed and then clean soil brought in to fill the excavation.

When the $60 million project is finished, the soil of 234 homes covering 18 blocks will have been dug up and replaced.
