NH Register editorial: Storm stressed New Haven sewer system

Stormwater overflow in West Haven that contains both storm water and raw sewage.

The nearly 2 inches of rain that Tropical Storm Nicole dropped on the region last week stressed the sewer system and showed the importance of the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority’s long-term plan to build separate lines for sewage and storm water, upgrade the treatment plant, which has a capacity of 100 million gallons, and increase the capacity of the lines’ pumping stations.
