Steps began to be taken last night in making Miller Pond a public drinking water reservoir. The 10-square-mile Hunts Brook watershed that feeds it will need to be protected to ensure the water remains potable.

CT Environmental Headlines was among CT DEP GreenCircle Award winners Tuesday at The Siemon Co., in Watertown. Award winners range from a group of Milford Cub Scouts for a beach cleanup to The Siemon Co., which has installed hundreds of solar panels and reduced its waste to landfills.

Northeast Utilities and NSTAR have announced that both companies’ Boards of Trustees have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement that will create one of the nation’s largest utilities, with a total enterprise value of $17.5 billion. The company will continue to be called Northeast Utilities.
