The battle over where to put silt dredged from Bridgeport’s harbor reflects the larger problem of where to dispose of material dredged from any harbor along Connecticut’s coast.

Dumping untreated, dredged material in Long Island Sound has been effectively restricted, if not stopped, since a 2005 agreement between Connecticut and New York that was hailed as a victory for the environmental health of the Sound.
