NORTH HAVEN — The state Department of Environmental Protection has agreed to stop using soil from a Hamden neighborhood as part of its closure plan for the tire pond.

Concerns that contaminated soil would seep into the adjacent Quinnipiac River arose last year when the DEP presented filling and closure plans for the tire pond to town land-use agencies.
