SE CT towns back bill to expand tax payments for lost land

Norwich, Conn. — Leaders from three southeastern Connecticut towns are backing a measure that would begin to compensate them more fully for taxes lost to land taken into trust by local Indian tribes.

If approved by the General Assembly, House Bill 5784 would gradually increase payment-in-lieu-of-taxes reimbursements to Preston, Ledyard and Montville, starting at 10 percent more in 2012 and eventually reaching 100 percent by 2016.
