Enfield’s Earth Day celebration spotlights eco-friendly attitudes

The town of Enfield came together on the Town Green the afternoon of Friday, April 15, to celebrate Earth Day. Town Manager Matthew Coppler said the event was an effort to educate the public on ways to help the environment by tying together various organizations representing different environmental elements. Transit Coalition smiles, Stowe decries Malloy’s support for Busway

At a press conference on April 4, Governor Malloy announced to the public that he has “decided to aggressively pursue construction of the busway” even though “it may not be the perfect project.”

Richard Stowe, founder and director of Rail*Trains*Ecology*Cycling (RailTEC), said that “giving the busway a green light is a giant step backward for Connecticut. The busway drives a knife through what should be a state transportation goal of building a seamless rail system throughout Connecticut. It destroys the possibility for New Haven-New Britain-Hartford commuter rail.”

Aquarion Water Company Purchases 20 Water Systems in Four CT Communities

Aquarion says it is purchasing 20 water systems in four Connecticut communities from Rural Water Company, Inc. of Bethel, Connecticut. The water systems serve approximately 320 residents in Brookfield, 245 residents in Danbury, 128 residents in New Fairfield and 335 residents in Ridgefield.

Several members of a crowd of more than 150 sought assurance from executives giving a presentation about the Millstone Power Station that owner Dominion will put spent fuel from one shuttered reactor into safe dry storage on the site.

Those at Waterford Town Hall included a woman who said she wasn’t convinced by Millstone owner Dominion executives’ premise that the two operating Unit 2 and 3 reactors and the closed Unit 1 reactor could withstand a natural catastrophe like the earthquake and tsunami that wrecked still-troubled Fukushima Dai-ichi reactors in Japan.

Public meeting Monday on Millstone; Some say ‘Close it!’

Perhaps this is why Millstone found it in their budget to sponsor programs on WNPR, Connecticut Public Radio this past weekend (perhaps others but this is the first time I remember hearing ads for Millstone during my Sunday broadcast on WNPR).

On Monday the owner of Millstone Power Station will publicly discuss issues affecting the nuclear complex ranging from a proposed tax on power production to environmental monitoring. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Waterford Town Hall.
