Plowing ahead: Metro-North considers winter strategy

Improved customer communications and quicker decisions to cut back or suspend service to spare the Metro-North New Haven Line’s aging trains from snow related breakdowns are two strategies that will help keep Connecticut commuters moving during harsh winter conditions this coming winter, Metro-North President Howard Permut said this week.

Better management and coordination to maintain Connecticut’s worn out rail fleet and infrastructure including movable bridges in need of replacement and portions of an overhead catenary (sic) system more than a century old can only reduce the likelihood of problems so much.
