ROXBURY—With help from a matching grant from the state, the Roxbury Land Trust is working this summer to stabilize stonewalls at the historic 19th-century iron ore mining complex at its Mine Hill Preserve.

Work at the site, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, encompasses reconstruction of massive stonewalls in five areas, as well as much-needed drainage improvements. To help underwrite the cost of the project, the land trust applied for and received a $43,000 grant from Connecticut’s Historic Restoration Fund, administered by the State Historic Preservation Office in the Department of Economic and Community Development.
