Westporters recruited for ‘challenge’ of energy conservation

Jethmalani’s home is one of about 160 in Westport that have undergone an assessment to evaluate and reduce its energy use as part of the Westport Home Energy Challenge, an ambitious new energy efficiency initiative launched earlier this year. The program is part of the statewide Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, which is backed by a $4.2 million grant from the federal Department of Energy and includes 14 towns in Connecticut.

Westport currently leads as the most energy-efficient town in the Neighbor to Neighbor program, with its residents recording the most assessments, as well as the most follow-up home energy efficiency improvements. The resulting energy savings from this work equate to taking approximately 1,100 cars off the road for one year.
