English Station power plant in New Haven to be demolished; owner mum on future

NEW HAVEN — Preliminary work is under way to tear down the mothballed English Station power plant, with demolition of the building scheduled to be completed early next year, according to a representative of the plant’s legal owner.

Once demolition of the 82-year-old plant is complete, the 9-acre island in the middle of the Mill River on which the hulking industrial building sits will be used for “an undetermined industrial purpose,” said Uri Kaufman, a Long Island, N.Y., developer who represents the plant’s owner, Evergreen Power LLC.
