New Haven aldermen want Route 34 crossing to be less ‘car-centric’

While aldermen are on board with the massive Route 34 Downtown Crossing project, a group of them wants to tweak the plan to make it less “car-centric.”
Route 34 Flyover under construction. It has since opened and dumps cars from I-95 North onto Route 34 in New Haven.
And they want to hear from the public.
The city’s active cycling community has teamed up with a group of aldermen and state Rep. Roland Lemar, D-New Haven, to propose changes to the Route 34 plan that would shift focus from cars to pedestrians, cyclists and mass transit.
