UConn has taken a major leap in going green by partnering with UTC Power to create a fuel cell power plant (PureCell) that will supply energy, heat and cooling to the buildings on the Depot campus beginning in the Spring of 2012.

The fuel cell technology soon to be employed at the depot campus will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing clean, efficient and reliable energy, of which the only byproducts are heat and water. It is estimated that the fuel cell will result in a net reduction of about 600,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
