The bulk of Connecticut’s solid waste is incinerated, to reduce the pressures of landfills and to produce energy. But it doesn’t take a degree in waste management to recognize that watermelon rinds are not a good fuel source.
That’s why it’s exciting to see the entrepreneurial start-up, Wise Waste, LLC, spearheaded by Annette Montoya, of East Lyme, and Rich Oliver, co-owner of Perennial Harmony Garden Shop in Waterford, get off of the ground.
