CT cities get $17M for brownfield cleanup

Nine Connecticut communities are getting $17 million in state loans and grants to restore toxic or abandoned former commercial and industrial sites to productive reuse, including $4.5 million for Preston’s RiverWalk redevelopment.

The state Department of Economic and Community Development said Friday this opening round of brownfield funding paves way for a second round, for which the agency says it is now accepting applications. That deadline is Feb. 3.
