Ten years and counting for Niantic River conservation organization | Suzanne Thompson, The Day

Ten years ago, concerned with the condition of the Niantic River and rumors of development plans in the Oswegatchie Hills, Grimsey decided after meeting with The Day’s editorial staff that he and friends should start a grassroots environmental non-profit organization, Save the River-Save the Hills, Inc.

The group’s mission is to abate and prevent pollution of the Niantic River, a unique estuary, and its watershed, which includes parts of East Lyme, Montville, Salem and Waterford.

The wheels of progress, and of preservation, turn slowly, particularly in New England.
