Shelton student receives CRRA Shelton Scholarship

SHELTON, Conn. – Bryan Fitzgerald, a freshman at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vt., has been awarded the 2012 CRRA Shelton Scholarship.

The $1,000 CRRA Shelton Scholarship is awarded annually to one Shelton resident studying engineering or the sciences at an accredited four-year college. Preference is given to a student who declares a major in environmental or energy fields.

Fitzgerald is majoring in environmental science at Castleton State and finished his first semester with a 3.1 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). He graduated from Shelton High School in 2011.

While at Shelton High, Fitzgerald volunteered at the Shelton High Food Bank and at the Shelton public library with the boys’ basketball team, of which he was a member.

The CRRA Shelton Scholarship is available through a special arrangement with the Sports Center of Connecticut located at 784 River Road in Shelton.

The Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority is a quasi-public agency whose mission is to work for – and in – the best interests of the municipalities of the state of Connecticut.
