The state Department of Transportation has approved all 50 modifications requested for the first phase of the Route 34 conversion to urban boulevards that were changed to make them more pedestrian and cyclist friendly.
After considerable public discussion, city officials proposed a revamped design for the roadways that are part of a plan to reclaim a dozen acres of developable land by eliminating the Route 34 limited access highway downtown.
