Things are moving rapidly with the GMO labeling bill in Connecticut.
It was submitted and given a number yesterday. HB 5117. The links below are to the bill history page (1), the bill itself (2)and the hearing agenda(3).
The hearing is scheduled for February 22, at 11:00 am in LOB room 1C. That is NEXT Wednesday. And the GMO bill is first on the agenda. Government folks get to testify first.
We should have a lot of people at the hearing at LOB and as many as possible willing to testify.
Often it makes a difference if all the folks on our side have some identifier so the committee can see the breadth of support for the bill.
This is likely just the beginning of the work to get the bill through the process to become law. But it is important to make a good start here.
Pat Bigelow and I met with a professional lobbyist who is interested in this issue and willing to give us a break on his fee to help with this issue, but that still will take several thousands of dollars that we don’t have right now. CT NOFA didn’t budget for this. If you have funding ideas, let me know.
