The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Connecticut $481,473 to reduce costs associated with the installation and use of rooftop solar panels.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy Thursday announced the award of the so-called “SunShot Initiative” funds.

The money will be used by the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority to improve financing options for homeowners and small businesses that install the panels, as well as to streamline the permit process and continue to link the systems to the electric grid.
