Massachusetts utility regulators OK Northeast Utilities, NStar merger

Massachusetts utility regulators late Wednesday gave final approval to the $17.5 billion merger of Northeast Utilities and Boston-based NStar.

Approval of the deal by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities came just two days after their counterparts in Connecticut, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, approved the merger. The two companies first announced plans for the merger 18 months ago.
