NEW HAVEN, CT — Save the Sound, a program of Connecticut Fund for the Environment, and Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, have launched a local campaign to Save the Sound.

The Save the Sound campaign will be available on the New Haven Groupon Grassroots page beginning on Monday, April 16 and running through Sunday, April 22. Utilizing Groupon Grassroots’ collective action model, Groupon subscribers can pledge support for the Save the Sound initiative in increments of $12, with each $300 providing the funding needed to buy 25 plants for a habitat restoration planting to help keep Long Island Sound a place of recreation and enjoyment for all to enjoy.

Recently, Save the Sound released its 2011 State of the Sound report. With an overall grade of C+, the State of the Sound report card called attention to the areas in dire need of improvement, as well as highlighted the positive steps that have been taken in Connecticut’s effort to make Long Island Sound a healthier, cleaner place. By supporting Save the Sound on Groupon, CFE/Save the Sound program can assure that they are able to continue restoring critical habitats around Long Island Sound and in its watershed in order to help protect and preserve the Sound for future generations.

“We are excited to employ the collective action model of Groupon Grassroots to raise support for protecting Long Island Sound,” said Don Strait, executive director of CFE/Save the Sound. “We look forward to creating new awareness for Save the Sound as one of the local organizations in New Haven to be featured on Groupon Grassroots.”

One hundred percent of the Groupon Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to support Save the Sound’s habitat restoration program.
