We were puzzled by the Hartford Business Journal’s criticism (“Tale of Two Numbers Shows State’s Folly,” 5/7/12) of our state’s efforts to remove items like obsolete computer terminals, televisions and used mattresses from the waste stream so that materials from them can be recycled.

After all, these initiatives achieve goals usually trumpeted by the Business Journal — namely reduced costs for taxpayers and job creation.
