Study to look at green spaces’ effects on crime in New Haven

Stacey Maples wants to see if there’s safety in, well, maples.

For the next few months, the Yale University data mapping expert and a cross-section of groups from around the city will crunch numbers involving crime and local green spaces. The idea is to learn whether the presence of a community garden, a park or trees makes an impact on criminal activity.
