When the electricity went out in the October nor’easter, generators and wood stoves started heating up, and people began coughing.

“We started to get more office visits,” said Dr. Abhijith Hegde, a pulmonologist with Western Connecticut Health Network. “There was a little spike of visits to the emergency department.”
