EDITORIAL: Decline in lobster catch continues

The Long Island Sound lobster fishery never recovered from the 1999 die-off that resulted in federal disaster relief for those who caught the crustacean for their living. In 1998, 3.7 million pounds of lobster were taken from the Sound; last year, only 142,000 pounds. In western Long Island Sound, the catch has fallen 98 percent.
