HAMDEN — As the largest residential environmental cleanup in state history starts to wind down, pockets of complaints are emerging in the Newhall neighborhood.

Residents whose questions range from why their yards weren’t dug up when adjacent yards have been, to why their yards and basements now fill with water, have banded together and are enlisting help from people who can raise their voices louder.

State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection project manager Ray Frigon said that waste fill has been removed and clean filled added at about 240 homes in an 18-block area bordered by Newhall Street, Mill Rock Road, Wadsworth, Goodrich and Morse streets.
