Environmental Stewardship: The Core of Connecticut’s Economy, Health and Safety
LCV-conference-2012CTLCV hosted its 13th Annual Environmental Summit in downtown Hartford on Dec. 6 with over 200 people in attendance.
The overarching message that our state must not forgo environmental protection, even during dire fiscal times, was repeated throughout the day. Connecticut’s natural environment is the bedrock of our economy, health, and safety — the very elements that encourage citizens to live and work in our state. Investing in Connecticut’s environment boosts our economy, improves public health and ensures our safety.
The Summit opened with remarks by DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty followed by three riveting panel discussions: Environmental Issues for 2013, Sustainability without Subsidy, and Environmental Priorities for Legislative Leaders.
Materials, photos, and a CT-N video from the Summit are available online at www.conservationeducation.org
CTLCV collaborated with a broad coalition of environmental organizations from across the state to draft a document that provides a snapshot of long-term environmental goals for Connecticut. Included is a preliminary set of legislative initiatives as a starting point for the 2013 session. We hope this will provide a framework for a legislative agenda that will keep environmental issues moving forward in a positive direction for all!
