Urban farming urged in Waterbury — subscription

It starts by planting a seed — both literally and figuratively.

The city’s branch of the University of Connecticut is teaming up with Brass City Harvest to create an adult education class meant to inspire people to embrace the idea of urban farming as both a solution to blight and a remedy for hunger.

It’s hoped older students will spend the spring semester at BCH’s greenhouses and gardens, planting crops that will eventually be used to feed the city’s poor.
