Environmental activists on Wednesday tried to pull the plug on a bill they claim would be a multimillion dollar giveaway to Northeast Utilities and hurt the state’s effort to expand renewable energy sources.
But Sen. Bob Duff, D-Norwalk, co-chairman of the powerful Energy and Technology Committee, said the bill would allow for better competition and provide lower-cost energy at a time when Connecticut residents pay among the highest rates in the nation.
