Siting panel hears from Meriden officials, NRG

Jul 17th, 2013 | By | Category: Business

The Connecticut Siting Council continued to hear testimony Tuesday on the future of 82-foot-tall abandoned power plant and other buildings on Meriden’s Cathole Mountain.

Meriden officials called on the council to modify a 1999 decision that allowed the construction of the power plant. NRG Energy, doing business as Meriden Gas Turbines, owns the abandoned facilities and told the city of its intentions to abandon them in April 2012. This year, NRG withdrew its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity issued by the Siting Council.
