Commission sinks state’s lobster industry

Since landing a record 1.8 million pounds of lobster in the western basin of Long Island Sound in 1998, the fishery has collapsed, with less than 15,000 pounds landed in 2012.

Roger Frate, president of the Western End Lobsterman’s Association called the decision by the fisheries commission to close Long Island Sound “nerve wracking.”
