Christopher Zurcher, founder, editor and publisher of the CT Environmental Headlines, has been selected to receive a 2013 Certificate of Appreciation award from The Rockfall Foundation of Middlesex County. The award will presented at the foundation’s 2013 Awards and Grants Celebration, to be held on Nov. 14 at the deKoven House Community in Middletown.

Founded in December of 2007, the CT Environmental Headlines — the No.1 environmental news blog in Connecticut — has posted links to more than 20,000 environmental news stories. Chris updates the site every day, and sends e-mail updates to subscribers (no fees charged to subscribe), Facebook friends, and Twitter followers.

“Rockfall and many of us in the environmental community have come to rely on the Headlines as a valuable source of information, as well as a key medium for sharing news about our own programs, grants and events,” explains Claire Rusowicz, Executive Director of Rockfall. “As one of the individuals who nominated Chris for the award states, ‘Chris works without any paid staff and only nominal freewill donations. His CT Environmental Headlines is a labor of love.’

Each year the foundation honors individuals and groups to highlight their contributions to environmental education and conservation in Middlesex County and the surrounding region. Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to recognize significant environmental programs and projects. The Certificates of Honor are given for outstanding life-long accomplishments in the area of natural resource preservation, conservation or development. Initiated last year, the Virginia R. Rollefson Youth Environmental Leadership awards recognize outstanding contributions by Middlesex County high school students.

All are welcome to attend the meeting and celebrate with Chris. For information, visit the foundation’s website here: ; or call the foundation’s offices at (860)347-0340.

Established in 1935, The Rockfall Foundation is one of Connecticut’s oldest environmental organizations. Its mission is to be a catalyst – bringing people together and supporting organizations to conserve and enhance the county’s natural environment. In addition to its grants awards, Rockfall also sponsors educational programs and symposia. It is headquartered in Middletown in the historic deKoven House Community Center on Washington Street, which it maintains and operates as a community center with meeting rooms and office space for locally-based environmental groups.
