The Dart: Stamford gardener preserves history, and a banana tree

Even though there’s snow on the ground and freezing temperatures outside, Sam Billings is thinking about greener pastures.

Billings manages the greenhouse and vast gardens at the Treetops estate near Mianus River Park on the border of Greenwich, and is preparing for an incredible spring season.

“I’m working to install about two acres of gardens,” he said, standing in the greenhouse on a cold February afternoon. “It’s designed to be a destination garden of all the sustainable items.”
