Lisbon students traverse region to gauge water quality

May 1st, 2014 | By | Category: Water

A crew of Lisbon Central School eighth-graders recently sailed from Long Island Sound up the Thames River to Norwich — and that was just the beginning of their mission to test water quality in the region.

After disembarking in the city, the six members of the school’s Environmental Club traveled over land — by bus — to the Shetucket River and then to the Blissville stream in Lisbon to collect water samples. Later, they even took action to prevent the runoff of road salt into waterways, with the blessing of Lisbon officials.

And now, they’re preparing to present their findings to Wheelabrator Technologies’ 20th annual Symposium for Environment and Education.
