Energy Plus to pay $4.5 million to settle Connecticut complaints

May 23rd, 2014 | By | Category: Business

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen and state Consumer Counsel Elin Swanson Katz said Thursday that their offices have reached a $4.5 million settlement with a subsidiary of NRG Energy.

The settlement is the result of a 2012 complaint filed by the two state agencies alleging that Energy Plus Holdings, a third-party electric supplier, misled consumers in its efforts to sign them up as customers. Energy Plus does not acknowledge any wrongdoing as a part of the settlement, which must still be approved by the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, said Jaclyn Falkowski, a spokeswoman for Jepsen.
