Environmentalists at odds with PURA ruling

Jun 28th, 2014 | By | Category: General

Wednesday’s final decision by state regulators on rules that cover tree trimming by Connecticut utilities around power lines is drawing criticism from a prominent environmental group.

Connecticut Fund for the Environment (CFE) says the ruling by the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) places the burden on local municipal officials and property owners to protect trees along the route of power lines. The agency’s focus should have been on requiring the state electric utilities determine which trees are most likely to lose limbs or fall down completely and work on those rather allowing cutting practices to be determined by distance from power lines.
