New Push to Clean Up Nassau County Beach

Growing up on Long Island’s North Shore, Delia DeRiggi-Whitton used to teach swimming lessons at Glen Cove’s three public beaches, and she still calls one her favorite: Crescent Beach, a small, secluded wedge between private coastal property and the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture.

But for the past five years, the beach has been so contaminated by bacteria that Nassau County has asked people to stay ashore.

Nassau County area elected officials on Monday announced funding for a $2 million study of that aims to determine the best way to clean up the water around the beach.
