Music and Green Ideas Highlight CT Folk’s Annual Festival
11 a.m – 10 p.m. Sat. Sept. 8, New Haven

Love folk music? Support environmentally friendly living? Looking for a free day out the entire family will enjoy? The CT Folk Festival & Green Expo blends all three in a day-long celebration Sept. 8 at Edgerton Park on Whitney Ave. in New Haven.

Enjoy non-stop live music on the Folk Festival Stage from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Explore the latest innovations and resources for building a sustainable community at the Green Expo (also starting at 11 a.m.), and take part in the many family-friendly activities scheduled throughout the day.

As in years past, the festival will feature local and regional musicians. This year’s performers include singer songwriter Cheryl Wheeler, Pesky J. Nixon, String Fingers, and The Sea The Sea (CT State Troubadour Chuck E. Costa and Mira Stanley). Other artists include The Levins, The Professors of Bluegrass, Glen Roth, Kristen Graves, The Anne Marie Menta Band, and the Beth Patella Band, and more!

The Grassy Hill Song Circle will take place during the event, and new this year, the Connecticut Artist Song Circle, offering a collaborative entertainment experience for the whole family to enjoy. Each song circle features three musicians, first performing solo work, then accompanying each other in a jam-session atmosphere.  The Festival will also feature the finals of CT Folk’s annual song writing competition.

With a focus on water quality and water preservation, this year’s Green Expo offers a variety of water-themed green activities.

The kids can also enjoy the EE Smarts Kids Energy Workshops, the Kids Composting Workshop with Duck Truck Composting, The Recycling Wizard, the Children’s Song Writing Workshop with The Sea The Sea, and much more.

All CT Folk Festival and Green Expo Events are free, though donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. The Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo is a nonprofit, primarily volunteer organization based in New Haven. The Festival & Green Expo’s parent organization, CT Folk, is dedicated to traditional and contemporary roots music and to caring for the Earth.

————————–

The CT Green Expo provides real solutions for people to live better, healthier lives with less impact on the environment. The Festival connects people who are interested in making a positive difference in both their lives and in their communities through environmental initiatives and activities, and through the social advocacy of traditional and contemporary roots music. CT Folk aims to do this by:

  • Educating people about the environmental impacts of daily living and the concepts for cost savings through efficiency
  • Connecting people with currently available “living green” products, businesses, services and resources
  • Gaining greater public participation and support for government actions for sustainable communities
  • Presenting a consumer-focused, fun, and family-friendly weekend of activities that everyone can enjoy

We invite you to partner with us by being an Expo participant, a sponsor or advertiser.
