SAVE THE SOUND, SENATOR BLUMENTHAL, COMMISSIONER ESTY, NOAA, STATE LEGISLATORS TO OBSERVE EARTH DAY AT CELEBRATION AND DEDICATION OF WALLACE DAM FISHWAY PROJECT

NEW HAVEN, CT — On Saturday, in conjunction with Earth Day, Save the Sound will be joined by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel Esty, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Senate Minority Leader Pro-Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven), State Representative Mary Mushinsky (D-Wallingford) and members of the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association to celebrate the completion of its Wallace Dam fishway project. The fishway will also be dedicated at the event to former Wallingford resident Harry Haakonsen.

Save the Sound received funds from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Restore America’s Estuaries, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to coordinate the installation of a fishway at Wallace Dam in the Quinnipiac River.

Following the press event, local volunteers will plant native vegetation to help rebuild the habitat adjacent to the new fishway.
